HELP1 Termites ate my peppers!
I am just not used to southern gardening, but I am especially not used to termites being a garden pest!!! This year I planted chilies and tomatillos for salsa (I'm transplanted from Calif.). Anyway, I went out to see what was making my plants look wilted and expected a virus or something, so I pulled them up. What did I find? Termites had eaten the centers out of the stalks and caused the wilt.

Thanks Jerry. So far this summer I haven't had any more trouble with the termites in my peppers. I planted the garden in a different area and did not get "free mulch" from the county. I gave up on the tomatillos because before they could get ripe they were totally worm eaten under the husks, that is to say, the ones the termites didn't kill. I try to not use chemicals as much as possible because I also have a bee hive and I do not want to poison my bees or taint my own honey!
I will check with the County Extension office. They are very near in Huntsville!
