I love this story! Thanks for sharing it.I love tulips also. Actually I love most plants! I can't wait for it to get warm enough here! The leaves are up but it is still too cold.

Love the tulips!  They are my favorite bulbs

One of my favorite plants is the passion flower along with the story that goes with it

The 10 petals and sepals of the flower represent the 10 apostles present at the crucifixion.

Filaments portray the crown of thorns or halo about Jesus' head

Pointed tips of leaves represent the holy lance

Tendrils represent whips used in the flagellation of Christ

Chalice shaped ovary with its receptacle represents a hammer or Holy Grail

The stigmata represents 3 nails

5 anthers the 5 wounds (4 by nail 1 by lance)

The blie and white colors of many species' represent heaven and purity

It is believed that tulips have been cultivated in Turkey as early as AD 100. In 1556, Emperor Ferdinand I, of Austria, sent Ambassador Busbeg to meet with the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The ambassador observed the lovely tulips in the gardens of Adrianople and Constantinople. In time, Busbeg presented the prominent botanist, Carolus Clusius with tulip bulbs and seeds. Later in 1593, Clusius became the head botanist at the Dutch university in Leidenin and introduced tulips to Holland.

That is Beautiful Kathleen and I so enjoy the story behind it.

Cynthia-Come on you can do it-just expand your gardens a little. R

oses can fit in just about anywhere there is a lot of sun.
My other love is the iris. This one is called "Everything Plus" it is huge-about 6'' across. I took the first photos 2 days ago and then the last yesterday just as the sun was coming out from behind the rain clouds in late afternoon.

The name “Bleeding Heart” arises from an old lore centered around a prince and princes. This prince showers the princess with gifts which are exemplified in the tale by the dismantling of a Bleeding Heart blossom. The lore ends when the prince takes his own life.

This is one of my favorite roses. We have had rain for a week and I was out looking at this rose through my camera just as i felt the warmth of the sun's rays. It is the rose "Gen=mini"
