I have a good sized yard for being in the city, and I want to start a hive. I have spent weeks researching everything I could on the topic, but I am still left with one question. Is it safe with 3…Continue

Well I see there is no activity on this site where did all the Bee Keepers go. I must say I got a nuc Thursday night and they are in the Hive and finally have settled down. I couldn't go any where near them with in 200 ft before one would start bothering me I still have to get the nuc box so I can reuse it if needed. I have fed them sugar water to help them through this spell of starting a new hive. I am excited to see them flying around and just know they will help my veggies and surrounding area out in pollinating.
I guess I can't get any information off this site there is no one on here
Can any one tell me if one can use a Bee box that has been invaded by moths? Can I clean it out with something?
Hi Laura I am no expert on Honey Bees or any other bee. I did have Honey bees many years ago back in the late 70's or early 80's I had them for about 5 years until they got moths and I lost 3 hives. I got very busy that year and neglected them. They did provide a lot of enjoyment and excitement. I had abundance of fruit from my trees and the veggie garden. I owned 1 1/4 acres at that point in my life and had just gotten out of the military and was doing very well. I lived in the suburbs of Sacramento so I was out in the country side and didn't have a problem with having a lot of people to deal with. You can have problems with people being scared of them and those who are deadly allergic to them. They have to learn to deal with the bees them selves and stay away from them. Now that I am retired and have more room I want to start another hive or so. By the way I don't live Sacramento any more I now reside in Oklahoma. I am excited for you. Can't wait to hear what you will be getting for land. Have a great Garden share day.

I lived in Sandpoint, Idaho for a while. Beautiful country! I live in MO now. My husband and I took a beginner bee keeping class offered thru a county beekeepers association and then we became friends with a beekeeper willing to be a mentor and teach us. Your extension office is a good place to start. Good luck!
I live in Eagle, Idaho on one acre of land and I've been thinking of getting a hive, but know absolutely nothing about raising and taking care of bees. Someone suggested talking to someone at the agricultural extension; I think I'll be doing that and doing all my research during the winter and maybe be ready to go by spring. Thanks for the ideas.
