Three of a few pics I took last week of butterflies on wildflowers in the back yard.  Note the caterpillar in pic.#3431.  I didn't know he was there until I looked at the pics on my computer.  :)

  Hello Heather Gill,I'm in RAPID CITY  on the westside of the run way of the EEFB. We have two acers but cow and horse land on three sides of us,glad to meet you.Iv'e always had a pasion for butterflys but don't know the names of them so joined here so I can learn about them all,thank you.  :)

Wonderful picture of the Monarch Tammy. Sherry I did post a comment for you in the Group Butterflies. I was thinking it was a little cooler where you lived. You might want to try some Stone Crop sedum even if there not deer resistant you can start them from cuttings and Butterflies like them along with Lantana and Zinnia. Just some more thoughts. Hi Everyone, I am new to this group and I am in the process of starting a few garden areas in my yard.  I want to dedicate on area specifically to butterflies.  I am in Zone 9 (I think) just above Sacramento in CA.  Any recommendations for deer resistant butterfy plants?

I raised 6 monarchs last year from eggs I found on my milkweed plants. It was truely an amazing thing to see.

Megan your story reminded me of a similar time in my life. I released mine but had kept the Monarch for a while enjoying it's company. I was in NC. last week seeing the sights and seeing there butterflies in the process. I seemed to always have the wrong lens with me when I saw them. I LOVE BUTTERFLIES. I HAD INFACT A PET MONARCH BUTTERFLY WHEN I WAS A CHILD LOL. MY FATHER AND I FOUND THE CRYSALIS AND PUT IT IN A JAR TO WATCH IT OPEN AND THE JAR WAS TOO SMALL. SO MY BUTTERFLY WAS INJURED WITH A BENT WING. I WOULD GATHER FLOWERS FOR MY PET AND GAVE HER WATER AND SHE LIVED IN MY BEDROOM. ONE DAY, MY MOM HAD SENT ME TO THE STORE AND WHILE I WAS GONE MY BUTTERFLY FLEW AWAY. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER MY BELOVED CHRISTABEL.
