strange chicken afflictions

I had to put down a "pet" chicken this fall because of a supposed parasite that I hand fed her from some new soil we had brought in!!!
these pesky worms attach themselves to the larnex and esophages and as they grow the close off the air supply... You can tell by the way the bird "gasps" for air.
I will be ok this year as we get heavy freezes needed to kill the little parasite.

So sorry to hear about your chicken. I found that one of mine didn't make it through the hottest days that we had this summer. It was a Leghorn. The other Leghorn made it, and the Rhode Island Reds. I thought that she was sitting in a nice hole that she dug to keep cool under the coop. But she just died sitting there. The others are still okay. This was several weeks ago. They had water, and ice, and tarps. Felt so bad.

Its really hard to loose a pet, no matter what type of pet it may be. I had to put down 2 several months ago and it just breaks my heart. Sorry
