You have to work fast to capture a flower in a painting because it might be gone the next day.
Sometimes I shoot a photo for reference to finish the painting if I don't get all the details done at once or if the mosquitos or heat or sun are too much to take outside.

I do best if I have the photo in front of me. Many times I will take several photos of mine and take something from each of them to create a different picture.
photos are great references, but it is great to paint outside if not too buggy
