Hi everyone, i just joined this group and wanted to stop in and say hi! I grow alot of different kinds of alpine strawberry plants, couple cherry trees, one current (black I think) unknown fig tree, 2 plum trees then some tropicals like different kinds of banana trees and dragon fruit cactus. It's good to find a site where others are as excited to grow fruits!

We have about 8 peach trees in south Alabama, and the older trees were loaded this year. Since the local nursery owner advised pulling the small peaches, myhusband followed his orders. However, they are still falling from the tree now that they are about ready and they have black spots on the skin. Can anyone advise how to get the peaches to stay on the tree until they mature and how to get rid of the black spots........we also have had a very hot and dry summer so far.............

Every year my Montmorency cherry tree is under siege of birds, squirrels and chipmunks. This year is no different. All I ate was a small handful of partially ripen cherries, while they had a feast!

Another ripe cherry - yum!

Hello to other fruit growers! I am in Northern Westchester, NY and grow fruits from strawberries, raspberries and currants through cherries, peaches and plums. I do not get to harvest much though, as my garden has become "all you can eat buffet" to the wildlife. That was not my intend but they always seem to outsmart me when it is time to harvest. I am open to learning some new tricks so I too could enjoy the fruits of my labor!

to Julie Grinnell: What is a black currant permit and why do you need one. Can't you just get a plant and plant it?????

You can prune and spray now.

We planted our dwarf ? apple trees about 10 years ago...is it too late to prune and when is the best time to do it and best time to spray? We've never gotten a good harvest because of that ugly black thing on the skin and some borers.

Ok, I've got a question that I'm hoping someone can answer.

We moved to our new place back in December and in January we planted our fruit orchard. I'm in California. Well, I just noticed this week that one of our apple trees if flowering. This tree didn't flower this past spring. Something is off. Anyone have an explanation or advice? TIA

mmmm......I love blueberries, Suzanne! I just got my baby plants last summer, so no fruits yet. Luckily there were some beautiful ones at the farmer's market last week.

I am super thrilled! Got ok'd for a Black Currant permit today, and they are sending it out in the mail tomorrow! WOOHOO!
Now I can finally make jam like Gramma used to!
