Thea – I don't care for most string lights either. The only ones I use are the round bulb type that you see strung-up in Italian plazas. I use lanterns of different styles. As you can see, glass versions are a favorite.
Here's a shot showing how I use mason jars. Hang them up from a tree or pavilion with candles and they look pretty great!

Here are some shots from my first garden party of the year! It was a good turnout and I was quite pleased with the way the decorations looked. Really, it was mostly different lights – candles, string lights and lanterns.
This shot is of the inside of the pavilion. The large center piece is a grouping of some of my favorite aeoniums and succulents.
The Buddha head shares space on one wall of the pavilion with outdoor artwork I made and lanterns hung at various levels.

Oh ! Happy Cinco De Mayo to you as well . Now i thought that was in September . or are there 2 . I recently learned why we as Americans should celebrate the one in September . it was because of the Mexican People in California helped defeat the French and helped keep them from Joining into one of our wars . So if that was one of your realitives then thank you .
