Great pictures, Brenda...Thanks for starting this group. I have one of those plastic train sets they sell at Christmas time,(Battery operated) that might be water proof? I am thinking of setting it up coming out from under my deck..Mr. Rodgers style :)

I have always Love trains, large ones and miniature ones, I got lots of them for My son but He grew up and the only Train I have is the one He gave Me when He was like 9 Years old, It is a Santa train...I place it under My Christmas tree every Year. I should start a Garden Train some Day, because the truth is I Love Gardening and...I adore TRAINS...   : )

Hi Donna,

Glad to see you found this. I am not a "pro" with trains in the garden, but thought there might be some interest out there on the topic. I have what "I like" and not necessarily "perfect or true" to scale.

The best advice is to "just go and do it." I enjoy it as you "garden" in small scale with dwarf, mini, and can even use normal size plants that you "keep trimmed dwarf." It's fun to go to the greenhouses to find those "right-sized" plants!

There is a magazine called Garden Railways and they have a site at www.gardenrailways.com - that might be a good place to start.

I also came across a site when I first started by George Schreyer called Large Scale Trains at www.girr.org - loaded with technical info and just about everything else related to garden railroading.

There is also a book titled Garden Railroading by Kent Johnson that is very informative for a beginner, even goes thru step-by-step installation of a garden railway. I believe there is a DVD out there now too.

I found the local train shops in my area do not carry much for G scale, nor know much about it, but that has gradually been changing.  I actually had to purchase almost everything over the internet. If you would be interested in where, please email me privately.

If there is any thing more I can help with, just let me know.
