Greenhouse

I have started my first greenhouse and cold frame this year, and look forward to learning all about it. Please add your input, tricks of the trade, and hopefully we will all do some year round gardening!

I've been reading 'The Winter Harvest', by Eliot Coleman.  Check this out from your local library.  I have decided that I will end up purchasing the book.  Lots of information that he and his partner Barbara Damrosch have learned over the years and he also has graphs and data on different houses they have tried.  I highly recommend it!

Hello there ! I am from Ireland, and will probably have different climate and plants from you who live mainly in the U.S.

I have 2 ploy tunnels, one measuring 10ft. x 20ft. that was not as strong as we expected and the other is 12ft. x 20 ft. and was erected professionaly by the company I bought it from. I now use the first one for seedlings and winter cover for non hardy plants and flowers. We also have a lovely seating area in there. The newer one was full of veggies this summer and I had good crops. It is now full for the winter and early spring.

This is going to be my first winter with the tunnels and I hope I will succeed :)

Thanks Cathy. I hope this one holds up too. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find any reviews and I hate to buy without hearing someone else's experience, but too late, fingers crossed! Happy Spring!

Thanks. I will definitely keep that in mind. I had one with the plastic/poly covering over it and it did rip. Hoping this one is better quality and putting it in a more sheltered spot will help as well.

Debra If you have issues with the plastic cover that comes with it you can go to your local Lowe's if you have one if not a lumber store that has the clear or cloudy roofing  sheets, I think the name of the stuff is called Tufex it is much better than the old fiberglass sheets.. Have fun and let me know how it works out.

Thanks William. I am in Ohio zone 5. We are trying to find the best place on our property where it will be  protected from the strongest winds as we do get wind storms and tornados occasionally. It is warranted for 3 years and the price was only 250. 00 plus tax. We are going to be looking for the best way to reinforce it as well. It included the shelving which was a plus for me and is 6x10. I was going to order the Harbor Freight 6x8, but have heard of too many issues with it and it required a lot of extra materials and time. So really hoping this one will work until I can afford to upgrade. Happy Spring to you all!
