Comment by Cynthia (Cindy) Zn 7B Tx on November 29, 2011 at 3:05pm This was a start from a friend back in the spring. I haven't decided if I should disturb the babies. I have a huge variegated spider plant too, plus an asparagus fern. They both go outside as soon as spring gets here. They love it outdoors. I had to bring them in early this year because of the heat. Even on the porch and shade, they began to not do well.
Love the spider/airplane plant. I have several I am trying to winter over inside!! lOL.. IF mom was hard of hearing, I would hve some hanging from the ceiling too!! But.... I hang them on the walls in flatt back baskets for now..
Comment by Cynthia (Cindy) Zn 7B Tx on November 29, 2011 at 2:15pm many hoya's would do good in the ground, I am unsure on how the rope hoya would do being a slow heavy vine. IT might do better!! I would try it if winter was not coming on now. WE get COLD U get HOT! Interesting how that works out! I keep a Celcius to Feh. here as I do fish forums and I usually place in the C and the F degrees as most are not in the USA, but I only have a list to 30C= 86F. so I didnt' know the C on 105F and up.. I think the USA is the only country that does the Fehrenhieit.. (I looked it up for spelling! what a word!!) most now are Celcius.. They are trying to do that here too, but I am old school! I like inches instead of cenimeters/metric too!! O well. IF U do plant it out, get pics and let me US know how it does!!

Barb - I have quite a few Hoyas and have grown them very successfully in the ground. At my last house one of my Hoyas clinbed all over a trellis in the front garden, it looked spectacular when it flowered profusely. I break pieces off and shove them in pots and they have a wonderful success rate.
Yes we get those temps here too - up to 45C (110F+) in summer. We were almost 100F the other day and only Spring here!
Neat Lyn on U getting a rope Hoya! they are neat but I dont' think it would do as good in the ground as hanging, but that is up to U.. they wil root too in the ground as they grow along, so U could get more later on.. I have not seen any flowers on mine, and they do bloom in the late spring/earily summer time.. I kept mine out side under the awning this summer and it did grow more, but no blooms. It was really HOT here thou, most days over 105F not sure on C for U.. but that is HOT no matter Farenhite? OR Celcius.. LOL..

Barb - I have just added a Rope Hoya to my little collection! Mine is outside, it did get attacked by the bugs, but seems to be ok now and I am now debating whether to put it in the ground or keep it in pot.We can grow Hoyas in the ground here due to climate, but not sure with this one as it is an incredibly slow grower. I love the Rope Hoya as it is such a strange gnarled looking leaf. Your wall hangings of plants looks great!
Margaret - Hoyas have the most amazing flowers on them, so perfect they look as if they are made of Wax, hence we refer to them here as Wax Plants.
Over look spelling!! happy fingers at work again!!
Thanks Cynthia, more to add to that wall!! gosh!..
Hey, Malrgaret, it is called a rope Hoya, neat plant but mine is turning yellow mostly now which is not good as it can die on me being inside now. Most times they are out in the stores/wal-mart is U have one in your area, (who doesn't) come March/april.. I have another one on the wall and I need to add two more!! LOL.. going to be a living basket wall soon!! I wil get some pics in a day or so..
