Inside Hens & Chicks 10 Replies

Since I live in the Midwest (think cold and snow), will Hens and Chicks survive indoors in a room with lots of windows?  I usually bring the pot into the garage over the winter and take it back…Continue

Barb it's looking beautiful. I'm just waiting for mother nature to decide what her plan is here.

I received a gift card for HD, so I picked up a new Hen n' Chick. I'll take a pic tomorrow. Love the fuzzy one you have. Pickings are slim here in IL.

The home improvement stores aren't full yet with outdoor plants, HD is bare, Lowes has some shrubs and bulbs, and I haven't checked out Menards yet.

Oh and I picked up a Easter Cactus. It will probably drop it's blooms, but at least I have one. Have many Thanksgiving Cactus and no REAL Christmas Cactus. So will be on the look out for that. Wish I could plant them outside, but I will keep them as a house plant.

Hey Robin!! I see U survived winter!   That tank I did is empty now, some plants died, some are doing Ok still. I hope U can get some babies off the main plant U have!! Mine all came through just fine in the rock bed. I did cover it thou, with a heavy tarp with chicken wire/pots here and their to hold it off of the plants.. Lots to do still but getting their slowly.. Here are some pics of March 15, and today, April 2 2015..

Succulent bed on Mar. 15.2015 after a cold spell.. Most dead but all of the Hens/chicks all survived just fine.  The cluster I left intact did really good!! The others are getting bigger daily and the stone crops are coming back I have planted here and their!! Neat to see!!

Cluster I left in tact!! babies are forming on the smaller ones now!

So, I received a bunch of different hens and chicks last fall. Couldn't plant them outside so keep them in the basement holding area, hubby takes care of them while down there and he just brought them up for spring. Well most of them flowered.

I'm going to take a brush to them to seed if they set seed, but it's so sad that they didn't make them outside to the bed they are to be in.

I know this isnt' my bed but I wanted to make a indoor succulent sea scape.. So I did a 15 aqu.gal .. lol.. Play sand and Lava Rock and different succulents that wont' survive cold temps out side.. More to add but here it is right now. Plants are in pots and not planted so NO rock bed, just Lava rock to hide them.. The last pic is what it looks like now. more shells added in. will change as I add in more plants but not to many! Small tank..
