sweet woodruff is also used in making may wine.
and Arp rosemary? where would i find that, since they obviously dont carry it in the local shops around here...
Comment by Vicky Myers on April 29, 2012 at 2:54am I don't use it for anything but to look pretty but it is used in potpouri. Make tan dye from leaves and stems, red dye from roots. Just looked it up in an herb book and the food and drug administration say only good in alcoholic beverages due to it's toxicity which can cause vomiting, dizziness and when testing on animals, liver damage, growth retardation & testicular atrophy. But claims it to be a calmative, diuretic & antispasmodic, sooth stomach, combating jaundice, nervousness, healing wounds & regulating the heart. This is a quick rundown from what Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says.
Comment by Vicky Myers on April 29, 2012 at 2:28am My sweet woodruff got dragged home from a lady I used to work for a couple yrs ago, it wasn't getting watered properly. I helped my self to it. Finally planted it under the pineish tree last yr. It gets water, that's it. They like some shade. I was afraid it wasn't coming back after winter but there is some out there. I would be happy if it just took over out there.
Comment by Deb Phillips on April 28, 2012 at 10:09pm Tell me about your sweet woodruff. I just planted some. What do you use it for?
Comment by Vicky Myers on April 28, 2012 at 9:51pm I had lemon thyme for a long time then one yr it croaked.
Comment by Vicky Myers on April 28, 2012 at 9:50pm Yes you can get lots of starts from your sage.
Comment by Vicky Myers on April 28, 2012 at 9:48pm It has to be Arp rosemary to survive winter.

Being in the zone I'm at, i've only ever managed to over winter rosemary once. (Which is a shame; its one of my favorite herbs) I let the dill reseed wildly (as with the cilantro)...Borage I planted last year, but haven't seen the reseeding yet. Voles took out my parsley AND my 10 year old thyme...so had to replant those as well. Have an oregano plant (that's older than dirt) and some chives. Planted some basil, and bought some lemongrass this year (which would only last the summer, but i love the flavor) Lemon balm and chocolate mint are in different spots. I also have a HUGE sage plant...though I wonder, has anyone had any luck in rerooting (burying a stem to create new roots, then cutting the stem to have an entirely separate plant?) its that big; i'd like to break it up some. (though, i COULD just cut it way back...but why waste an opportunity?) Not a fan of tarragon (or anything anise) so that leaves a few out (though sweet cicely looks lovely--i've had it before). Had nasturtiums last year...but don't know if they've reseeded yet or not. Might be planting some garlic later too.
