I see the best results here at 5350' with them in lots of sun, but not in a hot spot, such as near big rocks or in a gravel mulch bed. Full sun in a well-amended, mulched flowerbed with other plants all around is preferable to out alone in the full sun with exposed soil (no mulch) and hot winds drying its leaves out. Of course, the best exposure for them, and for many plants, is morning sun and afternoon shade.

They prefer part to full shade. Some of the newer ones can tolerate more sun. It's probably best to check on-line or ask the vendor when you buy them. I've had luck with both.

so I should plant mine in full sun? I thought they needed to be in the shade.

I've found that heucheras don't like an unamended, heavy clay soil. My best success with them, including 'Palace Purple', is to add some compost or other soil amendment. Even in Missouri, the purple ones color up best with lots of sun.

I love these plants and want to get all the colors they have. I have a purple palace, but it looks terrible. What is the best soil for these?

They photograph as well as lady's mantle with the morning dew, don't they?

I am so glad to see a group for heucheras. I just love them too. I plant them with my hostas, or as a border. Don't they have the nicest growing habit?

I am planting my first bed of Heuchs this year to complement my hostas. Looking forward to experimenting with diff varieties. Starting with chocolate ruffles & purple palace.I'm in Oklahoma & redesigning my entire back beds.

I have added Peach Melba, absolutely luscious color, and striking planted next to Key Lime Pie & Palace Purple.
