Growing indoor plants under grow lights 3 Replies

I have posted  a couple of photos of plants that I am growing where there is no natural light. I use an ultra violet fluro tube light, you can get them from a pet store that stock tropical fish,…Continue

I should try growing one in a pot, on my back decking its hot enough in the summer for sure, and as long as the frost dosent get it in the winter. We are having quite a few frosts this year more than normal.

Yes Grant, IF they bloom I will post pics...just so you can tell me which ones they are!

Thanks for the fun comments, Mo and Keryn, keep them coming.  I do see some plumerias at full size in central Phoenix, although they are a bit of a gamble where I am as I'm further out and at a higher elevation.  I keep my favorites in pots just in case I need to bring them indoors.  Most winters I don't, but I did bring them inside for two of the coolest nights this past winter.  Mine in the ground got cut back pretty hard.  We'd love some pics of yours Mo, if/when they bloom.  My largest, a five foot tall multi-branched 'Celandine' blooms for months and months each summer, although no signs of buds yet, grumble grumble, LOL.  Happy gardening all!

I have 2 Plumera. One is red and the other a yellow & mango color. I never knew the REAL names. Here in N. Fla. I must keep them in pots. I put both in the ground a couple years back... Winter almost killed both of them. I was lucky to have salvaged a piece of both, and now 2 years later they are putting on more stems/branches. So its POTS for mine!

Have you got the room Grant for your frangipani to grow full size or will you leave it in a pot. They have the most wonderful scent, I have seen them in the tropics of Northern Australia. Too cold where I am to grow them.

Hi everyone, I'm very pleased this morning to see this first bloom ever on my 'Samoan Fluff' plumeria (frangipani).  I rooted it from a stem cutting from my last trip to Hawaii and am so glad it has rooted, is growing, and is now blooming.  The scent is absolutely wonderful.  I have great success growing plumerias when purchased as plants, but only fair success rooting them from stem cuttings.  I'm so glad this one, and a 'Celandine' have taken.  I hope you'll take a quick look and enjoy.  Happy gardening!

Thanks for the comments on the Haworthia truncata, I appreciate it.  It's not a glamorous plant, hah, but it's neat and easy so I've grown to like it.  It does bloom, but like all haworthias the blooms are on wire-thin gangly stems and the blooms are small and a sort of dull white/green, definitely not something to grow for the blooms, hah!

Elizabeth, thanks for letting us know about your upcoming hospital visit.  We'll definitely send you prayers and good thoughts!  Keep us posted.  Take extra good care and know we're praying for you.

Happy gardening all,

Grant

"Like most frosty mornings in Australia it cleared to be lovely day, the sun came out with a little left over summer heat. I got out and weeded the veggi garden. Love it."
