Favorite garden shops 1 Reply

I live in Indpls but love taking a drive south to Stream Cliff Farms. Wonderful plant selection, garden ideas, lunch spot and now a winery. Wondering of other "favorites" from Indiana members.Continue

Just found this site today. Doesn't look like there has been much activity since last October. I loved that we had warmer weather and some sun today...really got a good start on winter cleanup. I have seeds started indoors. I dabble in several areas: composting, perennial native plants, veg and herb gardening. This year I want to can some of my garden goodies.

I've had some amazing cardinals at my feeders but all my birds seems to have a sixth sense about when I want to photograph them! They'll let me do whatever I want in front of our windows as long as there's no camera in my hand! :) I do have a fairly photogenic nuthatch that has been hanging around lately! I don't remember if I've posted those pictures up yet or not. If not, I'll have to hop on it! :)

I can't wait to see any of the pictures that you take! I'm working on a lasagna garden for in the spring right now. I've never tried one before, actually this will be my first garden at all! I'm wanting to make a flower garden that will attract birds and butterflies. I've got a lot of seeds just waiting to be planted!! But right now it's interesting to watch the kitchen scraps, cardboard, and newspaper all break down! I'm optimistic that I'll end up with something of beauty, even if it's not what I originally planned! :)

Thank you, Tracy, for the encouragement. I have the winter to prepare and have started taking before and during photos. I need to be a little more systematic in my photo efforts, but I will share some in the Spring. For now I will lay out my catelogues and design --maybe for the whole garden, but with babystep plans for March. I see you like birds too and I remember winter in Indiana with cardinals and chickadees brightening up the landscape. That is something to look forward to!

Hi Diana! What a great opportunity to take what you've learned in Chicago and apply it to your larger garden! You can start over with a better knowledge of what plants grow better where and what plants compliment each other! Maybe you should take before, during and after pictures to show how far you've brought the garden! I completely understand the feeling of being overwhelmed by a looming project but just take babysteps and you'll get through it! Then you'll have a beautiful garden to relax in as a result of your efforts!

Renovating my old garden after 15 years of renting it to non-gardeners. Pokeweed, thistle, ivy and grapevine have taken over! I made my tiny garden perfect in Chicagoland but this one south of Indy is much larger. I am an organic gardener but I feel overwhelmed by the task and need encouragement.

Hi Jems! I don't know where you're located but Bennett's in Lafayette is one of my favorites! They're a little pricey but they've got a great selection and if you get one of the older workers (as opposed to the summer help) they know their stuff! They're ready to help in any way they can! In Logansport, Rozzi's Greenhouse is also really good, with better prices. Outside of that though, my knowledge is limited.
