Living Zen is a great resource for basics on creating a Japanese garden.  Don't know who wrote it but it's a coffee table book.  Very simple to understand.  They touch on the important factors that add the Japanese/Chinese influence.

Has anyone in this group planted a Japanese Garden in their FRONT yard? I'm curious to how it went and any design tips you could offer. Thank You. Also, my front yard is not that big-about 56x40 or 2240sq.ft with an added side yard of approximately 42x12 or 504sq.ft.

Here is our new Budda head. This thing ways well over 200 pounds and we had a heck of a time getting it up that hill and put into place. Me and my little wife did it and then she did the great antiquing job on it.

Here is a little movie clip of part of the yard.

nice pics Donald! You have a beautiful wildlife sanctuary!!! I'm ready to move... here in ohio... we have nothing like this! Beautiful Foo dogs.... Now you should have protection ..... too bad they won't protect from the big bad heron! How do you keep the fish safe?

A couple of Asian inspired sections of our yard.

I finally got my Foo Dogs home and installed. According to the men who delivered them they weigh over 500 pounds each. I believe it because it was all the three of us men could do to get them on a dolly up the steps. We have moved a lot of very heavy things up that hill but these were the hardest.
They are solid white marble.
