Some plants and shrubs are grown in rows like this for research;  Usually a fast growing type of tree or shrub is used.

Have you discovered what this tree is yet?

Hi Bonnie!  No, I've never found out what plant this is.
I am fairly positive, someone else also mentioned it, that this is a boxwood or 'Buxus'. Most likely a native American variety.

I was going to say pomegranate but the leaves are not right...
