I did put allot of annuals in this area but to my knowledge none like this.

It's a WEED.  I don't know the name.

This little weed grew all the time in the fields near my parents house when I was growing up.  I always liked them.  I wonder why yours hasn't open up yet?  I think the flowers are pretty, but the plants are generally kinda scrawy  I found a picture of it and it's name.  It's called Hibiscus Trionum.

I grow these in my flower beds. I don't consider them a weed, at all! It's in the Mallow family with Hardy Hibiscus. Commonly called "Rock Rose".
Does the rock rose have a fragrance?
I don't think so, Jan. At least I've never noticed one.

Melissa, do they overwinter in cold temps?  I'm assuming they're hardy since they grow as a weed....  Must be tired, I think I answered my own question.  lol.

You did answer your own question, bonnie! Lol! They are very cold hardy. I'm assuming some people refer to them as weeds because they can be invasive. They throw out a ton of seeds, and grow from them VERY fast & easily.
Nina, thanks for looking up and finding the name of this...."one man's junk is another man's treasure"....pretty weed!  I'll have to show hubby what it looks like with the bud opened.    I think I'll keep it under 'treasure' as a plant, tho.  Much to pretty to be a weed.   A great many of our cultivars today started out as simple little weedy wildflowers until a botanist took note of it.
How did I get this?  I have never even seen one of these in any garden up here in Northern Minnesota.  Hibiscus Trionum, thanks so much gals for the prompt identification.... Now I wish I would have kept it but I pulled it out yesterday along with all the mighty roots of my Cosmo's.
I know it as "Flower of the Hour".  It only blooms in the morning.  By noon, it is usually closed up.
HA!  Hubby has been 'protecting' this very same lil' plant/weed growing up in one of my pots; hubby wanted it left to grow to see what it was....
