Jan...that is gold leaf...I use a mixture of color flakes. I have used the gold solid color in sheets but it is more difficult to me to use in sheets. the flakes you don't have to worry so much about keeping it flat and no wrinkles. I first woodburn the lines around the gourd then do the gold leafing. The woodburned lines help keep it where you want it then I go back over the lines to clean it up. I use gourd ink dyes for the color. The green one I drilled holes in so that when the candle is burning you can see a little thru the holes. The photos do not do them justice if I do say so myself.
Beth, What did you use to give the gold the shimmer? These are so usable what a great idea!
My Hydrangea are still in the Sauna.... I have committed myself to my garden club to do the table centerpieces for our Holiday party on the 1st Thursday of Dec. Then I will be forced to put the Hydrangeas into my wreath... I wanted to get a good wreath at a garage sale but didn't so I'll tear the old foliage off one of my old ones. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do until I start working with it.
Hi Aunt B and everyone else here, I really loved your gourds. You did a great job on all of them I especially like the Hydrangea gourd.
Jan..haven't checked in here for a while. Hope you got your hydrangeas dried okay. I have always waited for them to pretty much dry on the bush and then hand them upside down in my studio. I have a really pretty gourd that I decopauged dried hydrangesa on.
they dried withou color so I painted them , then put several coats of varnish over them...turned out nice.
