Hello my fellow NH people! I was surprised to find this group and happy you are here! I live in central souther NH and have been working on starting flower beds the past couple years. I look forward to reading about what everyone else is doing and what plants are working for you. I love just about all flowers but have a soft spot for Daylilies, Iris and Herb beds. I look forward to meeting you all.

Peonies are very heavy feeders so next year feed them well. Daffodils are left alone, as well as crocus. Often moles and voles get to tulips Every year Mother Nature gives us some new challenges.

I am disappointed in the peony...thought it would do better the second year around but I am only seeing one little flower bud on it.  And my butterfly weed doesn't seem to be coming back.  Oh well, I will have to get some other perennials and annuals to fill in the spots.

I just ordered a catalog from Wayside Gardens as I heard they are pretty good....I will have to look into Brent and Beckys for bulbs.  Its nice to get ideas from others that have had luck.  thanks :)

I planted a few things last year that are coming up... My Stella D'Ora's already have flwer buds on them, Hosta's are almost all coming up... I'm disappointed in my Zebra Grass... it's just starting to show a little green.
Might be cause of all the snow and ice from my roof !! Bad spot for them, maybe.
My Spring Hill order was a little dissappointing too! But they do better the second year and after if they survive!! I think I will stick to local also, We do have so many of them in NH!! I was at Coles in Concord last week and they have alot of new varieties, but very expensive ... I found a new one that moved last year from the west side of Concord to 106... close to Pembroke... prices are lower... good variety...
Stefan, I have never heard of that one, but I don't have any bulbs, except Elephant Ears.... too much work to dig up... do they have perennials also?

Brent and Becky's is the company I buy almost all by bulbs from. They have an incredible collection of daffodils. They have lots of other items as well. The online catalog has accurate pics of products. They have knowledgeable folks available for your questions. NEVER accept any bulbs that have mold. Not only will the performance be poor at best, you may jeopardize existing plants.
The race is on for next to blossom here in central NH garden. My first iris (pale yellow) , columbine and my darkest lilac are within days of opening. Apple trees are in glorious bloom. Lilly of the valley is a carpet beneath a sugar maple small but what a wonderful fragrance.

Sounds like a wonderful garden Nancy!  You will have to put up some pics once everything starts really growing.

I should have called the place when I first got them and not even planted them....they have a year warranty policy so I planted them to see if they would grow...and less than half did.  So by the time I noticed what grew and what didn't it was too late.  I did do some looking online and found that there are a lot of similar complaints about the company!  Never again!!  I will stick to my local garden centers!!  :)

I had a good day in my garden on Saturday... I saw/heard my first Hummer and Cardinal!!! Planted some new plants, I love Centurea, and I dound a new varity that is purple in the middle and white and the edges, beautiful! And a pink and white coreopisis... lite pink poppy I was able to separate into 3 plants and an orange and red yarrow. And a few more... now rain for the next 4-5 days will settle them in well i hope...
Jamie did you complain to the place you got the moldy bulbs? Some of them will replace an order. Spring Hill was good to me, after I complaned to them...a few years back.  Good luck...

Things are starting to pop up now and I may even get some irises this year!!  I made the mistake of buying some bulbs through Direct gardening last year and half of what I got was moldy and never grew!!  I went and bought some other perennials and they seem to be doing good!!  I am hoping for a beautiful summer garden :)
