Welcome to Non Profit Plant Exchange!

Instructions to post on this site:

Start a discussion with the plants you have to offer. Do not put your address in the public forum, simply exchange addresses by member mail.

For small plants and bulbs, it will cost approximately $3.50 to mail your plant to the recipient, and then they in turn can use the same box to mail their contribution back. Each participant pays the postage to send to the other.

Tips For Successful Exchange

To Mail Plants:

1. Choose a smallish box. If you have one that small plants were mailed to in, this is ideal
2. Choose a lightweight pot. It may be that no pot is necessary. A ziplock baggie could be used.
-To use a ziplock, place rootball and minimal dirt inside baggie. Leave the stems and leaves
sticking out of the top of the baggie.
Zip the closure to almost all the way closed, leaving enough room for the stem to protrude.
Do not put entire plant all the way in the bag.
3. Use minimal dirt on the dirtball. You could use perlite instead of dirt if applicable.
4. Loosely wrap a plastic bag around pot and the dirt to keep it in the pot when shipping.
5. Use loose plastic bags, peanuts, or little plastic pillows to keep the plant from shifting in the box during shipping.

To Choose Plants:

1. Choose about three smallish plants, (if applicable).
2. Try not to damage rootball when digging up.
3. If there are very large leaves, consider cutting them in half to reduce strain on the plant.

When You Receive Your Plants:

1. Do keep in shade until ready to plant.
2. Consider using a part shade blocker until plant is established.
You can lean a piece of lattice or other slatted board to make dappled shade over tender
newly planted plants.
3. If plant still wilts, consider cutting the leaves in half to reduce strain on the plant.

Disclaimer: Please use caution when exchanging addresses. You do so at your own risk.
Check to make sure plant is legal to ship in yours and recipient's areas.
