We had an inch of rain last night, so I just went out to check that my new orchids did not get too wet. They are up against the house under the eves, it did get in a bit but not enough to worry about.
Enjoy the journey. It can be fun.
Just looked up some of the names on the net he has given me some good ones.
Lucky you!! Good luck.
Not sure where to put them all, but could not say no.
My husband and I have joined the local Orchid club, a lot of men enjoy orchids even if they do no do other gardening. A guy from the club gave us 19 pots of mature orchids. They are not flowering yet and I can,t wait to see what they look like. Very exciting. But where will I put them, they can stay out side in a sheltered spot. Most have names, I will post pictures as they flower.
I am lucky because I have a husband who loves me soo much . He cuts the wood and feeds that baby in the middle of the nite so I can enjoy over two hundred potted plants that I have. But then he is lucky that I have that retreat in the winter or he probably would have to move out in winters haha I love gardening . I love to grow plants.
Joann I would say that you are lucky to have it , without one it be nearly impossible to have any plants survive winter. You are as commited as it gets, like getting up and feeding a baby in the middle of the night. But must be great to go to and potter around in winter.
Keryn, yes I have a wood heater in my greenhouse . I try to not let it get colder than 45 to 50 F at nite. And yes the sun will warm it during the day . If its not to cold I build a fire around 5pm then fill it back up at 10pm and it does fine. If its below freezing I fill it at 5pm , 10pm, 2am, and 4am. And if it gets down below 20F I have two wood stoves going. My house is a 38x50 hoophouse. I dont think I woukd make it thru winter without my greenhouse and flowers.
Joann how cold will it get in your area, do you heat the greenhouse or is what sun you get enough. 17f doing a conversion, thats -8 celsus. Yes you would have to keep them in a hot house. My cyms stay outside but winter does not get below 0c or 30f even at night. The more delicate ones stay under cover on our back veranda.
