Cymbidiums are the most cold loving of the lot. They handle down to 30 f, a couple of light frosts will not hurt the plant, just damages the flowers. They grow bigger and need an area of 1m x 1m  on a stand at least 30cm off the ground. Light spray watering during winter so just a little goes into the pot.

Phalaenopsis, moth orchid, growing under ultra violet lighting, indoors. My winters are too cold for these beauty's and the wind is too hot in the summer.

Move them inside under Ultra violet lighting, they have to be over 15 c or 60f . Spray mist the foliage, do not water roots during winter. Even next to a window in winter would be too cold.

I love orchids, unfortunately they don't love me. I had 5 moth orchids last year and this year I have two. I live south of Houston league city area, can any one tell me what I can do to save them during the winter?. this summer I hung them from my huge live oak tree and they are doing fine. I have 1 dendrodium, and 1 reed orchid orange.  please help

Great pictures!  Thanks for sharing.  I went to a lecture at my local orchid society on Australian Dendrobiums.  It was very interesting.

I,m still waiting for the other orchid to open , when it did not open in time for the show I put it back outside in the cool.

This a little dendrobium, flower is 2cm x 2cm . One of the ones I was given and the first time I have seen it. It will look great when it flowers in mass.

Entered my first orchid show with this orchid. I was writing up cards, not really taking much notice of the judges fussing around my orchid. Turns out that the parentage of this orchid goes back to the species by only 4 generations and it has won…
