I have not long been into Orchids, I have always had a few in big pots under trees in the garden. But they are not show Orchids. I  counted them on the weekend, I now have 124 orchids of all types. They say it becomes an obsession. LOL

Just repotted my cymbidium orchids, I purchased cheap,  a much loved, but neglected collection, from an elderly couple who could no longer care for them. I have no idea what colors they are. Should be fun when they flower and hopefully I have some winning ones for the shows.

Orchids are winter flowering for me and are growing new leaves at the moment, if the are in a shade house. Its summer here, most plants are dormant. However with this heavy rain some will have a burst of growth.

Phalaenopsis or moth orchid, native to Southeast Asia, does not like temps below 15c or above  25c . Spray mist the leaves daily and let a little run into the pot. They needs lots of light, but I would not put them up against glass windows.

Phalaenopsis or moth orchid, flowering for the second time from the same stem. Do not cut off the old stem after flowering, they will flower again in about a 6 month cycle.

Mo, your climate should be just great for orchids, if you don,t know what it is I would not use it. Could a fungus wash, but I,m guessing. They need to be sprayed for fungus and scale mostly, so maybe go buy stuff that you know what it is.

Fertilize about once a month, I like a week tea natural fertilizer, brewed from manure.

Your heading into winter, just spray the leaves with water, don,t wet the roots too much.

Hi Yvonne, mine still flower 1 meter below the light and I have some as close as 30cm, but I would not go any higher with plants to the light than that.

about the ultra violet bulbs for orchids, how much above the plant should it be?

Help! I just bought 7 orchids from a gent selling ALL he has. I was very fortunate! He did say however, that they may need to be treated. He has neglected them for a few months and said he would give me something to wash them with but I left w/o remembering, as did he! .. cause we were talking too much! Do you have suggestions or advice to what he may have meant?

"Took "orders" for my containers & hanging baskets today & nearly 20 people are on the list. So I am not worried I will have too many of these combos left when June rolls around! Now all blooming by Mother's Day? Maybe not. . ."
