Robin, I don't know if it would be too moist. I doubt it.I would just watch and see how it does. If it starts to have problems then I would move it. I don't have any of that variety yet. I hope to get one this year.

I wanted to put my 2 new ones in with the other ones, but the woman said it would be too moist?  The pots sit on a moss bed and I water the pots every 2 weeks.

Zigmund and Robin,

Zigmund you are right , we should not be afraid of orchids.

Here in my zone I have to get them through the winter. Robin,

if you have a waterfall what a great place for your orchids.

I am looking at lighting. I have seen the lights you are talking

about I have been lucky that is has been a mild winter this year.

I have a young cattleya. I bought it as a baby plant. I hope it

does well. I have to watch that I don't over or under water!

Zigmund that is so nice, what you did for you mother! My phal

is blooming I hope that it lasts for 5 mos!

Zigmund, there were so many Orchids that I fell in love with at the show. I will see how I do with the 4 I have 2 Phalaenopsis (don't know the colors) and the 2 Paphiopedilum shown below.

I have the 2 Phalaenopsis in a vivarium that has a waterfall, pond, peacelily, Mexican Butterwort and a few tree frogs. They looked a bit wilted when I purchased them and now look happy.

I just have to find a happy home for the 2 new ones.

So while visiting a reptile show at the fair grounds they were having an orchid show in another building so we stopped in to see what they had. OMG, they had so many that I wanted. Hubby bought me 2 Paphiopedilum The one not in bloom is Green and White.

Robin,

I know they are expensive. Lowe's had smaller plants for around $5.00 or $6.00. E-bay also has small orchids for sale. I haven't tried

that yet. It has to be warm for them to ship here. You have to be careful to quarentine plants after you get them.

I don't pack really tight. And I have found that one orchid

likes things different than annother. The purple one that

has bloomed is a really big hardy orchid(a phal)

My other one that is going to bloom soon is a much more delicate phal.

I hope to try a lady slipper next year. I will probably try to

get a young one off e-bay.

Cynthia, your orchid is beautiful. I hope I have am lucky enough to get mine to bloom.

I was at Home Depot yesterday and it looked like they just got in a shipment of Orchids and they were all in bloom, I fell in love with a bright purple one but I just can't afford $20.00 for 1 plant.
