Lileen,

I have discoverd that with violets and orchids if they get some

natural sunlight they have less chance of getting it . My violets

had a mildew problem, they were not getting enough sun.

I give my orchids dome sun , but I am in zone 5 so the sun is

not as strong as in southern states.

Hi Everyone,
I have a few pots of Cattleya orchid (including my profile photo), and at different times they were infected with fungi. The other species have never been affected. I have tried to read up on its care but never found any cause, or how to avoid it.  Does anyone have answers?

Thanks for the link. I was looking at a light fixture that comes with a frame. It's meant to sit on a table . I really don't want to mount one from the ceeling right now. The fixtue looks like the one in the link.

Cynthia, you aren't that far away from me. I'm in Roselle (near Schaumburg)

Hausermann's in villa Park is having an Orchid Show and Sale thie weekend Feb. 24-26 and March 2-4 from 9am to 5:30pm

2n124 Addison Rd. Villa Park, Il 60182 it's right off of North Ave. I already posted the one happening at the Botanic Gardens.

I've lived out here for 23 yrs and I've never gone to Hausermann's even though it's 20 min away. I've always felt it was a dangerous place to visit being so close...lol

Robin, I don't know if it would be too moist. I doubt it.I would just watch and see how it does. If it starts to have problems then I would move it. I don't have any of that variety yet. I hope to get one this year.

I wanted to put my 2 new ones in with the other ones, but the woman said it would be too moist?  The pots sit on a moss bed and I water the pots every 2 weeks.

Zigmund and Robin,

Zigmund you are right , we should not be afraid of orchids.

Here in my zone I have to get them through the winter. Robin,

if you have a waterfall what a great place for your orchids.

I am looking at lighting. I have seen the lights you are talking

about I have been lucky that is has been a mild winter this year.

I have a young cattleya. I bought it as a baby plant. I hope it

does well. I have to watch that I don't over or under water!

Zigmund that is so nice, what you did for you mother! My phal

is blooming I hope that it lasts for 5 mos!

Zigmund, there were so many Orchids that I fell in love with at the show. I will see how I do with the 4 I have 2 Phalaenopsis (don't know the colors) and the 2 Paphiopedilum shown below.

I have the 2 Phalaenopsis in a vivarium that has a waterfall, pond, peacelily, Mexican Butterwort and a few tree frogs. They looked a bit wilted when I purchased them and now look happy.

I just have to find a happy home for the 2 new ones.
