well my last orchid didn't make it :-( i did learn a few things about them tho during the process of killing that one.. i have now purchased 3 more and giving it another try .....
I currently have 30 orchids, all very happy...most in bloom most of the time and would never add ice to them!
Sorry--- the "Add ice" thing is at best a marketing ploy. Orchids are tropical plants and are shocked by ice. NOT a good way to water. Orchids ARE easy to grow, but read up a little more and water properly. They'll thank you for it!
where do you get the coconut bark from?
i just bought my first orchid on clearance at lowes this winter. wish me luck. i have never grown had one before. my elderly neighbors had them and they both recently passed away so i decided in their memory , i would learn for them....
I have never heard of a ghost orchid, any photos?
I had to google that one. They are beautiful but of course won't grow in WI. It sounds as though they're pretty fussy to grow inside, too. I'll have to ask my "Orchid Lady" about them.
"Ghost Orchid" These were all the rage down here a few years back. Somewhat difficult to find in the wild and I've never seen one in cultivation ... have you?
:) Though I live in Central Florida and have access to great growers and orchid societies, I've managed to keep my orchid interests well below the "afflicted" level and yet deeply into learning about, caring for orchids and visiting growers. I don't consider myself a collector and will buy an orchid that is pleasing to my eye. That means I don't have many expensive orchids but do enjoy seeing them. :) Brookie, can you post a picture of your lady slipper? Carol .. I can only imagine how nice your plants must be!
I currently have 8 Phalaenopsis in bloom and 2 in bud, and a pretty yellow Paph blooming.
