How old does a peony need to be before blooming? Just an eye planted grows a small plant and no flower the first year. Can I expect any flowers the second year?Continue

Comment by Jessie on May 20, 2012 at 9:11pm Are there any peony varieties that can survive in zone 9? We have cooler weather (70s to mid 80s) up until late March and sometimes into late April here in Florida. Thank you!
My first flowering peony of the spring, waiting for 10 other plants to bloom.
Comment by Roxanne on April 17, 2012 at 8:15am Eleven peony plants! They must look wonderful when they bloom. Please post pictures when they do. I would love to see them!
I have 11 peony plants and they look very good this year, lots of buds. Some are only in their second year and others are 3 yrs in the ground.I've loved peonys since 1981, my neighbor had one white flowering plant that sat between our yards. I now have a different house so I went a little nuts having 11 plants but I love watching those red stems come up in the spring.
Comment by Roxanne on April 12, 2012 at 8:47am Mary, those leaves do look like Peonies. It will be interesting to see if it blooms.
Janet, I don't feed mine either. It seems to do well without.
Can someone tell me if these are peony leaves? I've never had peonies before, but I had some bulbs that I planted in this pot about 3-4 years ago. Just a couple of months ago, these leaves came up. I'm not sure if they are peony leaves or weeds??? Should I just keep in the sun and see what happens? Thanks!
Comment by Janet Ruth Baron on March 30, 2012 at 10:25pm Years ago, I read that peonies don't need fertilizer so I never have fed them. Do some of you feed yours? If so, how do they do with that and do you use liquid or powder type plant food?
Comment by Priscilla Bryant, zn5 IL on March 12, 2012 at 3:41am Got a healthy peony that's been living in the shade for a few years without really blooming. What a waste. Gonna move it to a sunny spot before blooming season while the ground is still cool and see what happens.
