My plumeria has been looking sickly, dropping it's leaves that have some brown on them and some are curling.  It's been watered and we are starting to have much cooler nights so I've been bringing it in under the patio cover (solid cover).  Should I bring it inside since we'll be getting down to the 30's over the next few nights?  I don't want to lose this one!

As I am in the southern Hemisphere my Plumerias are actively growing and flowering at present. I live just south of the Tropic of Capricorn so cold and frost is not an issue but during the humid summers here we do get rust which has to be treated.

Yep, I'm bringing the pots  under the patio cover as it's been getting much colder these last few nights.  One is just doing fantastic so I don't want to lose him.  Others have told me several years in a pot is a must before putting them into the yard so they build a good root system.  Seems to be the trick for mine here.  I'm looking forward to watching it grow and eventually bloom...seems I've been having to do a lot of waiting this season.  Sigh....but I know I'll be rewarded in the end.

If I know it is going to get below 32 I will bring the plumerias in the garage. The last killer freeze was in 2007 when it got down 22 at my house. I had just moved in to my house and the back yard was dirt only. I lost alot plants that were in pots and too big to move in the garage.. Seems like about every 10 years we get a hard freeze.

Hi Michael...do you bring the pots inside or under a patio in the winter when we have those killing frosts?

I have a few plumeria, I have found that they don't have much of large root system. Mine are in cactus mix soil and spend @ min. Three years in a 3 gal pot. Mine also do best in full sun and I'm in Riverside, CA. About half way between LA and Palm Springs. Hot summers And some frost in winter.

It's still alive and growing...have others in pots now and am hoping pulling them under the patio cover on frosty nights will help this winter.

Sally, I have one potted Plumeria and it's still small but starting to do the same thing...leaning. It's in full sun also but seems to be following the movements of the sun. I've been turning the pot but I think today I'll move it to the more open area of the yard to see if it still does this. My cutting that I put in the ground isn't getting enough sun so that's going to be potted. I'm off to my aunt and uncle's today and they have more plumeria cuttings for me...can't wait. They said I could raid their yard for anything I want to try to bring back into my yard...fun!

Sandra-in Bastrop, Texas, hope you're ok and that the wildfires have spared you and yours!

Thanks, John.  Mine sit on the corner of the driveway, getting about 7-8 hours of intense sun.  None of the others around it have exhibited this behavior. I was wondering if it was a sign of needing water-you know the water pressure in the stem/trunk or something.  My husband, a chemist, brought that up.  Should I just try to stake it, or don't bother with it until I repot next year?
