Almost time to get the pool sweeper out permanently!  Lost a lot of plantings around the pool to the frosts this year.  Some may come back but we'll have to wait for some good hot weather to tell.  In the meantime I'm planting more banana and palm trees, also something "spikey" to add more security around the perimeter.  The gopher also did a number till one of my dogs got him.  Planting rosemary and lavender to try to help deter them...???  Pool friendly plantings for me are the palms, bananas, hibiscus (lovely) and creeping thyme (to replace the grass and weeds).

Well, some kids threw a bunch of dirt over my fence and into the pool.  The filter has stopped so I need to call the maintenance guy.  Plus they did some damage to the fence.  I've been monitoring them daily as they play in an empty lot behind my house.  Notified police also as this is going to cost a few bucks to repair.  Plants have died back due to frost...I'm feeling the blues!

I'm in Hemet, CA with a large pool and trying to create a lush, easy to maintain tropical feel.  I had a good start going but then the frost came and killed off the leaves of my banana tree, hibiscus and bougainvilla plants.  They are now coming back but here's a photo of how it was looking at the end of summer. Trying to get Wooly Thyme and Creeping Thyme to fill in as ground cover as it holds up well to the heat out here and smells good when stepped on.

Grasses are nice. Large and small. From my experience most tree are too messy

I have some pictures posted that you can take a look at of areas around my pool. This year on one side I thought I would try some gardening in three areas we'll see if things grow and how well they do. Next year may be different again. I have tried all kinds of things, you can always change things up. In the other areas around my pool I have pereninals which will remain there.

I had a Master Gardener Help design around my pool. She suggested the daffodils and an ornamental grass. I didn't Care for the grass, so after 2 years I ripped out the grass and have planted knock-out roses and sage. I am going for a red and purple garden.
