Repurposed baby crib 3 Replies

A friend gave me this crib when I was pregnant. It was the kind that drops down in the front and is unsafe to use, it also was missing a lot of bolts & we couldn't even figure out how it goes…Continue

Improve your bird feeders. 3 Replies

Why do they make bird feeders that rush the birds away?  My husband has helped me this winter to make the bird feeders better.  I don't get out and about as often as I would like to so I wanted to…Continue

I seen some moss that looked like this in a potting demo. for succulents and they kept putting it into water and soaking up the water before placing it in the basket and then filled the basket with potting soil and filled with succulents. It was beautiful.

Yes it is ordinary moss from the craft store.  I thought well the sedum would completely cover it anyway.  I am going to reapply and wire it on the upper edges.  I am hoping the sedum will go up and over and hang down.  Just have to wait and see.

and the moss, where do u get it? Is it a living growing moss or some of that moss you can buy in bags at a craft store?

I love your nursery and the idea of painting the tomato cages, now my mind is in a whirlwind!!!

the Sedum does wonderful here,I put 2 broken terracotta pots together and planted my sedum in it and it died down completely in the winter and came right back in early spring, I LOVE IT !! I took a few pieces out and planted them in 2 other pots and they are just growing like crazy. this was my first experience with the Creeping Blue Sedum,i have some other sedum in the garden and it comes back every spring too.

Yes, it is blue sedum.  I just love that color, I hope it goes crazy in the basket. The moss is just ordinary green moss(not much green left to it.) I also have an old coco liner in there. The sedum roots are so thin, I thought they would get a better grip with the moss. Really should have wired it around the edges, but I will refresh it when I bring it indoors for the winter.

Victoria is that creeping blue sedum in the basket? mine has a very faint burgundy line around the edge,I love it. and aleo what kind of moss do you use ?

Thanks mo puff and Donna for the compliments, I had a lot of fun.  Above is a simple idea.  Got tomato cages, new or used, paint and stick a moss basket in the top.  It's an instant tall planter that you can put right into your flower beds.  Really I think of this stuff because I am frugal (read cheap) when it comes to garden decor. :) I love the new brightly colored cages because they really either blend or stand out in the gardens.

FANTASTIC!!!! Victoria, what a great way to use an old trash can... now its beautiful!

Comment by Victoria Gordon on June 22, 2014 at 10:11am

The trash can sat in my shed for nearly ten years. Now it is something that enhances my garden.  Being a pack rat and seeing that something can be re-purposed (even if you don't know when or into what) is not a bad thing in a world that discards way too much.
