So I am fairly new at keeping roses and I am afraid that by pruning and watering too early I might have killed one :( , Also I did not know to wrap the junction on my standard rose and it looks like only one half of the grafted rose lived so it may be a funny shape, I will post some pictures later, and wait a week or so before taking any drastic measures (just in case), I guess experience comes at a price, hopefully next winter I will do a little better.

Kay, where are you in the Carolinas? Close to Charleston? If so, do the spring garden tours there and find the roses you like the best...a great way to find plants perhaps suitable to your climate. And if not there, how about the JC Raulston arboretum in Raleigh?

Any opinons on the best white or light pink climbing rose?  It was my impression that a Cecili Brunner will bloom all summer in the Carolinas and is a good work horse rose.   The garden center guy is trying to talk me out of it.

local garden centers/nurseries usually carry roses that do well for your zone

Since I am having a difficult time finding a david austin rose in the league city tx area, I am wondering if they just don't do well here. I would love to order them but shipping is too expensive for this 70 year old woman. What I really like about these roses is that they have a large petal count, which is hard to find. Any suggestions, thank you soooooooo very much

I live in League city texas and I can't find david austin roses, I want a rose with lots of petals and it seems only david austin roses have this. Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks Maris, i'll try it too...if necessary. I saw only a few Japanese Beetles last year, but I'm sure they'll be back at some time.

Arden,  I was also attending a MG class on Beneficial Bugs and a gentleman who works for a nursery said they use a vacuum to remove the Japanese beetles and it works great.  I'm sure going to try it this year.

While attending a Master Gardener class on Beneficial Bugs in the Garden a fellow MG said he uses a small hand held car vacuum to remove Japanese beetles from his roses (obviously not one of the beneficials we were learning about). Has anyone tried this?

The mess my roses were in was short and they got new growth. Maybe the weather is better for them now. Rain could happen anytime now, its pouring out.
