Saving seeds

I hate to waste a good seedpod. I love the cheap, open pollinated varieties from the drugstore, though sometimes I'll fork over the dough if it's an heirloom. I usually try to recycle stuff like cosmos & marigolds. A couple years ago I had a mixed heirloom tomato package from Burpee and I separated out the varieties. Everything was doing fine, the babies (Black Krim & Yellow Sunburst) were hardening off on the porch roof and I left for school as a frost hit. It killed the tomatoes and stunted all but one of the eggplant--it was the damnest thing! It was protected by some recently purchased herb plants. I got two Roma plants from a dept. secretary at school that day, unaware of the frost that morning. Oh, well, had to go to the store. So I'll try again this year, though I don't have much room at this new apartment. But I can't help it. I don't have kids. I have plants and pets. And ocasionally, men.

I have beeen saving the seeds and sis sends me some from central Florida that do wonders in the summer and I need to gather the seeds yearly as they don't like being in the house!

I LOVE THE END OF YOUR STORY,IT MADE ME GIGGLE. BUT I FOUND THE FIRST PART VERY INTERESTING, I NEVER THOUHT ABOUT DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS BUT I THINK I'LL TRY.

I save seeds from any and everything...veggies are kind of fun...I did save some seeds from a store purchased spaggetti squash last year and ended up with some strange squashes...some looked like spagetti and some looked like green somethings I fed them to my chickens..but I save all my flower seeds...
