I'm so glad to find all these wonderful groups! I have found out through several people that they refer to our house as the "Dr. Suise" house and gardens! One new neighbor told me that they bought in our neighborhood just because of our garden. I thought that was so nice!

That was an interesting story. I didn't know that about ants.

Daddieo-that was such an entertaining story.I always enjoy learning about new things.I never knew all of that about ants. Thank you soo much for enlightening me. There is a weed problem even in the ant colonies. Guess we have so much more in common than we think
I knew that they were industrious but wow!. Glad that you are here on GI.

You are welcome. Any other questions please feel free to ask me. No Bayer-or anything with "cide" as the last part of the name. I had one woman tell me that she was using spectracide to get rid of the bugs on her roses!!!
Most people do not know how to cutarose. I have a blind friend who I just told yesterday about the 3, 5, & 7 leaf. She didn't know. Now she will feel before she cuts a rose.

Hey to you all. I'd love to share my tips with you. I use all organic products on my roses. First i use plenty of rose soil dug under and around them. If you are just planning on putting your grans' in. You can get this from a nursery.(NOT HOME DEPOT OR LOWE'S) It has lots of goodies that the roses can use like bat dung and other things. Then I use worm castings about 1 1/2 to 2 cups, alfalfa meal (food) and fish meal or kelp meal-either can be used and the same amounts. This will enrich the soil and make it the right ph for roses.Every 3 months. Do NOT ever use tea or coffee by your roses. They are a base and coffee and tea are an acid. Use those on your gardenias and azaleas or any other acid loving plant. Roses are base. Watering-they like deep long watering 2-3 times a week depending on the weather.I use an organic sulfur spray on all of my roses to prevent mildew, black spot, rust, insects or any other thing that would harm the rose leaves. It is from a company called Espoma and it is Earth Tone 3 in 1.I get mine from Amazon.com You can either get the concentrste or the single sprayer. i, of course get the concentrste. I wil last years. I use 2 house-hold sprayers and put in just a teeny amount and the fill it to the top with water. Label the bottle because you would not want anyone using this other than on roses. It can also be used on some ornamentals. I have butterfly bush that gets mildew.I keep a bottle with me whenever I go out to my gardens. If the rose leavesliik yucky-i strip them off and a new growth will appear (during growing season which is all year here in So-Cal) Then spray when the new leaves appear. Do not use any product called systemic-it is a poison(petrochemical) and can harm humans.Bayer usually makes it. Not good for roses also. When your roses have bloomed dead-head them. Roses have 2 3 leafs, 2 5 leafs and 2 7 leafs. Cut the rose just above the 5 or 7 leaf about 1/4 " A new rose will grow out of this. If you cut the rose above the 3 leaf-NO NEW ROSE WILL GROW. These tips should give you a good start. Ask me anything else that you want. I love to share my rose tips. I have a group called "Sage Gardening Tips". I do it there too.

Hi Leah, and Nancy! Our heat wave finally broke! It's supposed to get about 90F toward the weekend though. Yes, grass would be great when there is children. A nice place for them to play.Nancy, your roses are always so beautiful! Will you share your secrets?
