Permalink Reply by Adele Michelsen z6/7 LI, NY on May 28, 2009 at 4:01pm I am also into genealogy. I have been researching both my family tree and my husband's. The farthest I've gotten back on mine is 6 generations (to the very late 1700's) on one branch of my Dad's side. My mom's side has been very difficult. My gramma left behind no family history, and on my grampa's side I think there was a name spelling change at immigration that is throwing me off.
My mother-in-law's side looks like mine, due mainly to an abusive husband that hubby's great-gramma ran and hid the kids from.
But, in my husband's tree I have gone back 13 generations in my father-in-law's family...all the way to the 1500's. Most were still in America at that time, believe it or not, but I am finally finding some immigration from England and Ireland at that time.
But it is such exciting work! I use Ancestry.com. It's fabulous!
I also ride and train (on an amateur level) horses. Been riding all my life. At present, I just have my gelding, but he is my spoiled baby boy :).
And, I am an avid reader. Currently trapped in the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon LOL. I also love to read non-fiction about things like past lives and anthropomorphism.
Here is a picture of me and my boy, Amistad (I call him Stads, usually lol), in January of 2008, getting ready to hit the trails. Unfortunately, that is not my property lol, it is where I board him.

wow those quilts are amazing! I am just starting to pick up quilting (the only thing I have made is some place mats =-) But I enjoy it. I am getting a sewing machine from my in-laws and I hope to make a sun bonnet sue quilt for my best friend's baby she is having in July.
I also love animals! I wish I had time to learn how to ride horses, but right now I am in school, and work at the humane society. I currently have six sick foster kittens, plus my three cats, three chickens, and lots of fish! My husband says I need to be needed because I love taking care of plants and animals.
Brenna, you'd better get started on that quilt if you want to get it finished by July. LOL
You could always do the Sunbonnet Sue appliqués by hand while you're waiting for that sewing machine. Too bad you don't live closer to me, I have like 5 machines... My favorite is a treadle machine I got at a church yard sale for $10-. All it needed was some cleaning, oiling, and the belt tightened; and it works better than my electric machines.
I still really love doing most of the work by hand. I'm almost looking forward to being laid-up after my surgery; I'll be able to get a lot of sewing done...
I made a Sunbonnet Sue quilt once for our local Habitat for Humanity's first "Women's Build". Instead of flowers or watering cans, "Sue" is wielding a hammer & saw. LOL

Permalink Reply by liz joseph on August 10, 2009 at 11:41am I like to draw. It's been a passion of mine since I can remember. I wish I could make a living off of my artwork!!! I even attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI for 3 years. My diabetes took over and I had to 'drop out' because I was in the hospital more than I was home. It hasn't deterred me from picking up a pencil, at least on a weekly basis, and sketching or what not. Here's an example of some of my work. I don't only draw cars, though, I draw everything.
