So far I've seen people mention Genealogy, I also sew & quilt... sometimes I combine the two.
I'd love to hear what other interests our group members have...

Here are pictures of 2 of my quilts. The Hydrangea is finished, and is a 3-D quilt / wall hanging.
The other one is a work-in-progress, "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilt, AKA my "Insanity" quilt. It's made out of hexagon pieces that are only 1" across. So far there are over 2,500 pieces (not including the green in between), and by the time it's done it'll have over 5,000 pieces.

I am also into genealogy. I have been researching both my family tree and my husband's. The farthest I've gotten back on mine is 6 generations (to the very late 1700's) on one branch of my Dad's side. My mom's side has been very difficult. My gramma left behind no family history, and on my grampa's side I think there was a name spelling change at immigration that is throwing me off.
My mother-in-law's side looks like mine, due mainly to an abusive husband that hubby's great-gramma ran and hid the kids from.
But, in my husband's tree I have gone back 13 generations in my father-in-law's family...all the way to the 1500's. Most were still in America at that time, believe it or not, but I am finally finding some immigration from England and Ireland at that time.
But it is such exciting work! I use Ancestry.com. It's fabulous!

I also ride and train (on an amateur level) horses. Been riding all my life. At present, I just have my gelding, but he is my spoiled baby boy :).
And, I am an avid reader. Currently trapped in the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon LOL. I also love to read non-fiction about things like past lives and anthropomorphism.

Here is a picture of me and my boy, Amistad (I call him Stads, usually lol), in January of 2008, getting ready to hit the trails. Unfortunately, that is not my property lol, it is where I board him.

I grew up with horses in my back yard (one at a time). I miss the riding SOOO much. I wish I could afford to have a horse again. I'm hoping that if I get my settlement, I will be able to lease a horse through a rescue farm here in the Hamptons.
Have you tried the Ellis Island website? They do a lot of Genealogy, especially when it comes to immigration. I got to go to the Ellis Island Museum, and was astounded at the amount of materials they have. On my paternal grandmother's side, I can trace back to the Mayflower, kind-of. I have to find which relative has all the documentation. I've just started to get my membership to the DAR. My mom has been researching her family background, so I'll have that information soon. I've been trying to research the backgrounds of my kids' families, but I'm having a hard time because in the African-American, and Native American, communities; they didn't keep very good records. Another place you can check is The Church of Later Day Saints. Believe it or not, they have an extensive library of information and search engines. They believe that the more relatives you have information you have of your ancestors, the more peolpe you'll have to greet you in heaven (or something like that).
I also love to read. Mostly trashy novels, LOL; but pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I also love DIY books about art, decorating / interior design, and gardening.

I'm a quilter too! Here's a link to pictures of a few of my quilts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/truvy57/sets/533059/

I say "a few" because I've been quilting for 23 years, and don't have photos on my computer going back that far. Suffice to say I'm a quilter first, a gardener second, and I also do community theater. Any other actors/actresses out there??
wow those quilts are amazing! I am just starting to pick up quilting (the only thing I have made is some place mats =-) But I enjoy it. I am getting a sewing machine from my in-laws and I hope to make a sun bonnet sue quilt for my best friend's baby she is having in July.

I also love animals! I wish I had time to learn how to ride horses, but right now I am in school, and work at the humane society. I currently have six sick foster kittens, plus my three cats, three chickens, and lots of fish! My husband says I need to be needed because I love taking care of plants and animals.
Brenna, you'd better get started on that quilt if you want to get it finished by July. LOL
You could always do the Sunbonnet Sue appliqués by hand while you're waiting for that sewing machine. Too bad you don't live closer to me, I have like 5 machines... My favorite is a treadle machine I got at a church yard sale for $10-. All it needed was some cleaning, oiling, and the belt tightened; and it works better than my electric machines.
I still really love doing most of the work by hand. I'm almost looking forward to being laid-up after my surgery; I'll be able to get a lot of sewing done...
I made a Sunbonnet Sue quilt once for our local Habitat for Humanity's first "Women's Build". Instead of flowers or watering cans, "Sue" is wielding a hammer & saw. LOL

I like to draw. It's been a passion of mine since I can remember. I wish I could make a living off of my artwork!!! I even attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI for 3 years. My diabetes took over and I had to 'drop out' because I was in the hospital more than I was home. It hasn't deterred me from picking up a pencil, at least on a weekly basis, and sketching or what not. Here's an example of some of my work. I don't only draw cars, though, I draw everything.

sorry about the "needswings' across the drawings. My fiancee's website is www.needswings.com. We've been trying to seel the drawings there, but the customers are few and far in between... when it comes to my drawings, anyway!!!!!

WOW!!! I've always wanted a horse of my own. Growing up, I'd ride our neighbor's Palomino, Charlie. I also had a great friend in elementary school who's aunt had a black Quarter horse, Black Magic. She was nice enough to take Nicole and ME riding!!! I hadn't seen Nicole in 15 years, until I went to the Marlboro ranch in Montana last week.... where we reunited at the Bozeman airport!!!! She'd won the trip, too!!! We'd seen each other at the Detroit airport that morning, rode on the SAME PLANE together, and had many conversations... without recognizing each other!!! It finally dawned on her when we had our nametags on that I was, well... ME!!! I'm so happy for our reunion and don't ever want to lose contact with her again!!!!

Oh, yeah, what I meant to say was that I wish I could be in your position. I loved horses growing up, but to an extreme. That's great that you can be around them so much and enjoy them on a daily basis. Keep it up!!!! There are a lot of ppl that would like to fill your shoes!!!!! :D
Love the quilts! I sew and crochet. I am a beginner at quilting. I have made three quilting projects so far.The full time job cuts into fun project time! During the summer I love to be out side so much I don't get a lot of sewing done in the summer!
