McKenna and my flowers
About 12 years ago I had some new neighbors move in. Darrin and Julie had two small children. Sawyer and McKenna. I became very close friends with the family.. Darrin was a pastor at my church.. Julie, would bring her two little ones over to see my garden. I have blackberries that produce in June. I asked Sawyer if he wanted to try some. He did. I asked McKenna who at the time was 3. She said NO. I offererd her a handful anyway. She reached out her hand and grabbed those berries and stuffed them in her mouth. MORE PLEASE MISS NANCY.. After that she would regularly come knock on the door and ask if she could go into my garden. I'd go out with her and ask if she'd like to pick some flowers. YES PLEASE. How many can I have she asked. As many as you want. She loved it and would come by every day. She is now 13 and when her parents return to Irvine from their missionary posts abroad McKenna comes by to pick flowers.

Hello and good morning, Yesterday I took 6 bouquets to some special people in my life. I had a scare this year with a ruptured appendix. I took one of those bouquets to the doctor who performed the surgery that saved my life. She was pleasantly surprised. I also gave one to the front office and a nurse who I befriended talking about roses. I took the other 3 to friends.
I give an open garden tour at my home once a year. The very first year I had 600 people go through in 2 days. It was a very organized tour that was put on by a woman who owned a local nursery. To be in her tour one had to be a gardener who did it by her or himself. That was me. I had talked with her by phone and she was delightful.

I did not know quite what to expect when I put up the sign for the tour. The hours were supposed to be between 10-6. The first morning I had people knocking on my door at 7-30 am. I told them to walk down the side yard into my back garden. My granddaughter and I had made some home- made cookies. Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip. Yum.From 9-30 to 6 pm we had a steady stream of visitors. I sat out all day and greeted my new friends-gardeners and non-gardeners alike.
On the first day I saw a woman in front, a man between and his wife behind (they were leading him) I looked up and realized that this man was totally blind.I walked over to the side rose bed and picked one of my most fragrant roses for him. It is called "Fragrant Cloud" He, his wife and mother spent

2 hours walking around my gardens, smelling each and every rose. When they were finished they stopped to ask me to write down a list of my most fragrant roses. I did. They said that they were going to plant a fragrant garden for him. Here is that rose "Fragrant Cloud" a hybrid tea rose.
How wonderfull to have friends! And you have opened a love of flowers for another person! Great!
Thanks Cynthia-That was a day to remember. I love sharing all of the beauty that I have.
