I am contemplating a "secret garden" but I'm starting from scratch. I have a junky corner of my yard that is fenced in and I plan to convert it in a couple year's time.Meanwhile, here are my…Continue

Comment by Lynette on February 26, 2012 at 7:28pm hello...this Garden Share site is pretty neat...I began in the miniature and fairy gardens and now here. I figured I met the critera because my lower yard is kind of a surprize for anyone walking down the path. We built a low 3 foot fence eons ago to keep our dog out...there was an 'escape' route down there. That alone separated it onto itself. Add three 100 foot photocarpus trees and an amazing flagstone patio that my son put in...a round raised bed for the center fountain and two matching curved raised beds that my other son built...curving boxwoods, an Impressionist rose and many fuchsias; babies tears; Graham Thomas yellow rose and my cement White Rabbit hiding...voila...a secret garden! At the moment it is not unlike the book...I have been unable to work in it for 5 years and am now just beginning again...the foundation is there. The point I want to make is that shade; trees and greenery; spots of color; comfy chairs and a water feature...it is truly a secret garden :)
Well Harry--I was thinking some sort of arbor and chairs w/ a little table. The shade would depend upon where I decide to place the garden. I could clear underbrush, which would mean dense shade, or I could find a little spot along the woods edge, which would let more sun in. Either way, it would be hard digging to do any additional planting, so this garden is still in the dream stage.
Comment by Harry Larsen on February 15, 2012 at 3:46pm Cynthia, Are you planning to place 'rustic' structures in your secret garden? Like benches made from logs or arbors from branches? Is your wooded area heavy or light shade? Is it dense or lightly planted?
Hi everyone! I'm brand new to the group. I don't have a secret garden yet, but I am intrigued by the idea, and have plenty of property on which to create one. So if you all don't mind, I'm going to hang out here read about what everyone is doing. I am in PA, in Zone 6, surrounded by woods, so my secret garden would probably have a woodland bird & butterfly theme.
