Hi everyone,

I'm new to the tree's group and was wondering if anyone wondering if anyone has a Beech tree..the purple fountain fagus version. I was thinking of putting one by my pond and wanted to know if they shed a lot of leaves in the fall?

Did a Google search on planting Magnolia seeds...found my answer. Take red seeds out of pods, rub with sandpaper...plant in potting soil in plastic bags in frig for 2-3 months or outside if cool enough and should germinate. I'm going to try them both ways, in frig and outside as it's still about frig temp outside at night. I have plenty of seeds and so one way make work better than the other. It also said, they may not bloom for 8 years...oh my!

After my recent move, I found a small brown bag of Magnolia seed pods from one of my walks but they are two years old! Does anyone know how to plant them? How deep, etc.? Pointed tip up? Haven't opened the pods, should I before planting?

daddieo thank you so much for the equisite explanation of the trees, I dont think any of those are suitable for naturstrips, the council wouldn,t like it, but I keep it in mind for my property once I have one, I am just wondering of how to avert the toxic beries since the wood and everything else on the tree is so worthwhile, ;is it known how they can get the toxins out,?, will contact a nursery to see how difficult it is to get young saplings from the southern beech, I like your fotos!

I am an absolute tree lover! A little obsessed actually. I have planted quite a few trees in my yard (front and back) and then ran out of room, so thought I would follow other people's experiences with trees. I live in South Texas (San Antonio) so alot of the trees I have planted many  people have never heard of. Alas, many trees will not grow in our harsh climate. Looking forward to following the thread. Thanks!
