How should delphiinums and tiger lilies be divided? What are the special dos a don'ts?

Hi Savanah, I don't have any experience with delphinums but I do have the tiger lilies and I have divided mine in the fall and the spring. Lilies are pretty hardy and I think the delphinums are the same.
I've dived both and they are slightly different. In Zoine 3, divide AFTER blooming, prefer in early fall. But if you divide now, be sure to water lots after re-planting. As for hows:

Delphiniums: you'll need to cut them apart. Get a heavy knife or use your shovel

Tiger Lilies: they create small bulblets - dig up the whole lily, being careful to dig wide and deep around the lily to prevent piercing the bulb. Then pull the plant, pull apart the bulblets, and replant. If you can't replany right away, keep in slightly moistened peat moss.
