I want to build a Japanese style cedar pagoda next year ... grow climbing plants up and over it, and shade lovers under it. Fun stuff!

Comment by Bonnie Hannum ~ Missouri, USA on August 21, 2011 at 3:01am: I'm jumping in line for LOVING your trellis box tepee design! We have lots of cedar here in MO, and they are very prolific; so I think they're going to be the perfect candidate for yet another project.... heehee....

I have always grown my cukes and zucs on a curved fencing trellis they could grow up through, but I really like this idea! They may be sprouting in our garden next year!

Comment by Marvin D Wilson on August 20, 2011 at 6:24pm: Lyn, lol, "hinting" - hey a tradesman of any kind with a carpenter in his lineage can figure out how to build a wooden trellis. Nag him! Teehee, just kidding, but good choices for long weather-resistant woods outdoors are Cedar, Redwood, Cypress, and several of the tropical woods - although I've stopped using them (tropicals) very much, as I despise deforestation of our tropical forests. In fact, here in the US, Redwood is endangered so I won't use that anymore either.

I have been using bamboo teepees for my climbers but would dearly love something a bit more stable and longer lasting, as the bamboo does tend to snap with age.
