That is a beautiful Clematis, I have one in a similar color and mine really took off the 2nd year I planted it. It's gorgeous!

This is one plant. It is in its second year of growth in the picture. I don't do anything to it other than enjoy it. I do make sure that there are other plants at its base because I heard that they like their roots in the shade and their tops in the sun. The first year I had mine it was spindly too. Its planted next to a rose and uses the rose canes to climb on. It can't grab on to the arbor alone. I'm in zone 5 Wisconsin and don't protect it over the winter.

Wow! Is that all one plant or many? I planted a single Henry II this spring in zone 5 Kansas. It's just a couple of vines with a few blooms on it in August. How often do you feed your plant? Do you have to protect it over the winter?
