A detail from a large bronze pot I have at my entry. These Golden Sedum (Sedum adolphii) have been growing for years in this pot and are dangling about four feet down from the pots edge. When a strand gets spindly I simply snap it off and stick the broken end back in the soil. It renews and adds to the other strands!

Yes! They are just the hardest working plant I have in all my gardens! The best part of that is they look so amazing almost anywhere you place them. You should see my neighborhood – I've given away so much of these guys that everyone around me is now a fan!

Comment by John Jardin – zone 9 on December 22, 2011 at 10:37pm Birdie – Anyone can grow most succulents. Just some trial and error for whatever zone you are in. Thanks for appreciating my shot.
Yvonne – if you are in zone 9 you should have no problems with succulents. Especially the ones I have above. They practically thrive on neglect! Some tips: Don't place them in more than a few hours of full sun when the temp is above 90. They do burn. Don't let frost hit them. Just put them under a tree or patio when frost is due. This is mainly because the frost damages their skin causing very ugly blots and marks. Cactus soil is good. Basically, don't grow them in slow draining soil. Feed them once or twice a year for healthier plants. Too much shade and most get pale and weak. Now go on – try some!
