Mae, Thanks for the flower ID. I am considered zone 6/7 so I guess I won't leave it outside at the end of the summer but bring it in again. I am definately going to need a bigger house!

I did some research of this flower just few days ago wondering if I can add this to my next project, a butterfly garden. Its called ixora coccinea, flame of the woods, jungle flame or jungle geranium. We call it SANTAN in the Philippines. This flower brings so much childhood memories, we use this for the "he/she loves me he/she loves me not" game. As a child we even sip the sweet nectar off the flowers :).
In one of the sites I checked says it grows in zone 10-11 and I'm in zone 8. Thanks for your posts now I know I can grow this in pots here.

Funny, I bought it as a plant growing in a container last summer with other plants. I brought it in over the winter and now its in bloom in my house. Same color flowers too. I am wondering if I left it out over the winter if it would survive. I am zone 6/7. Hope I can make it to San Francisco someday. I also heard it's a beautiful city.

I'm sorry, but I don't know. It was growing in the glass greenhouse in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Lots of beautiful plants there... worth the trip... but so is everything else in San Francisco. It's a BEAUTIFUL city.
