Firecracker penstemon in bloom with agaves

The very easy, very popular, and very durable "firecracker penstemon" (Penstemon eatonii)in bloom in front of Agave parryi. These firecracker penstemons are terrific plants here, requiring very little water. They look a bit tired in summer, but are green and leafy and they rebound nicely in autumn to bloom winter and spring. Hummingbirds (and gardeners) love the screaming true red blooms!

Monarch - Sept 2014

"Thank you Clare.  This past year was the first year that I've seen more than three Monarch's visiting the garden.  They seemed to favor the Buddleia's, Zinnia's, and Mexican Sunflowers over everything else."
