Actually, Barbara, these are blooming about 3 weeks earlier than usual due to the unusually warm (relatively speaking) winter and spring we've had this year! I'm not sure how well they will grow in Alabama. Here is a link to a brief article with more info: http://hortchat.com/info/bleeding-heart

Wow!  I didn't know these plants bloomed this early.  Beautiful!  I need to try one & see if they do well in my zone 8.
