I will have to look for them, I also thought of using pine bark mulch to put around where the iris are they are about 2 feet around because I have pine straw all over in the other areas then I could just plant the daffodils where there isn't any pine bark mulch. I look out now and see hundreds of white tags that mark where things are planted and it looks messy... in the summer you don't see them but now with everything dead it looks awful. I need to buy somemore of the metal plant markers they sorta disapear in the pine straw. It is raining today but when it stops I will take some pictures of the iris so you can see what I mean.

Walmart has some small white plastic "sticks" about 10 inches tall with a flat area to write on...They are great for "tagging" your underground bulbs so you can tell where they are..I use them to mark my Gerber daisies...I do that because i like to turn my flowerbeds over as deep as 18 inches in early spring...
This has been the coldest and most unusual winter..so strange...prediction is a colder than usual March...argghh...

You are several weeks ahead of us, I just now have daffodils coming up, not blooming yet. Forsythia is not blooming and that is always my clue that Spring has arrived. I do have lots of the tiny purple iris booming, they die down in the summer and I always forget where they are planted, this year I am going to mark them so I can plant some early blooming daffodils with them, they look sorta lonely by themselves. I love gardening, it is my passion, I would spend every day, all day in the garden but don't think my husband would like that, he is not a gardener and cutting the grass is about all he will do .... well maybe dig some holes for me to plant the big stuff. My garden here is going on two years old so I am still getting it the way I want... I planted lots of azaleas the first year and this year I want to put in a small stream through the woods. Always got to have a new project. Welcome aboard, there are some great gardners on this site and it is fun to see what everyone is up to.... I like the container gardner site and also zone 7... I would join them all but figured I would stick with a few to begin with.

Hi Donna..i am in central Alabama just north of the capital of Montgomery....I live in Prattville...I think you are just outside Atlanta, correct ?....

I agree with you..i am sick of this winter, the worst, i understand in many years...It is storming here right now...but my Bradford pear and Red Bud are both budding out....I cant wait to get started...

Thanks in advance if you choose to add me as a friend..Trust me, I will not make a nuisance of myself..You have a beautiful home, made so much more beautiful with all the flowers...

I dont understand why everyone doesnt have a love for flowers like those of us on this website..I have only been a member for about 3 days....But my sister and aunt have joined too and admit to being "hooked"....I cant wait to get some updated pics of my yard in April or May...

Thanks for the compliment, I can't wait for spring so I can get busy planting the deck boxes again. They have pansies in them now but they haven't done much with the weather being in the teens and low 20's most of the winter. I messed up and deleted your "friend" request accidently so send it again... where in the South are you located?

The home we had before this one had a very steep slope in back, we lived on the side of a mountain so gardening was a pain in the knees. I did swich back paths and planted things along the paths that I could reach from the paths. We had a terrible deer problem and I finally had enough and we moved to an area that is pretty level and we have an acre which we promply put a six foot wooden fence around. No deer problems as yet. You would love the self watering window boxes because you can actually go a week or even two without watering and you can add Miracle Grow to the water in the bottom chamber that will slowly feed the plants. I love mine.

I wish I had know about self watering boxes! Maybe in a few years I will change mine out. I know they are too shallow for what I want to grow. Yes, we have had alot of rain also. I have planted alot of things in my yard and glad I haven't had to water. I live on a very steep slope and trying to do some things to make it look better an weed eat less.

Looking back on this photo reminds me how fast things change... we have had over 20 inches of rain in the last two weeks, we are in the N. GA mountains 65 miles N. of Atlanta and if you have seen the pictures of Atlanta you know we have had way too much rain. Petunias don't like rain, they actually disolve in the rain and mine look terrible now, the Dusty Miller is doing great, the colus is shredded from the heavy downpours and the bocopa is brown and probably done for the year. The window boxes are the self watering kind from Gardner's Supply, they are 36 inches long and they do drain but plants don't like soggy soil and no sun for two weeks. Glad I took this picture in August because you wouldn't want to see the boxes now.

This is beautiful! I don't have luck with petunias. I'm not sure why. What all is in these window boxes and how large are they?
