Comment by Irma Slimko on March 4, 2012 at 5:19pm: I feed them just good ol' plain ' "Miracle Grow" about every 2 - 3 weeks. The main yard is watered with a sprinkling system, but my 100+ container plants I water just about every other day. They are filled every year with fresh Miracle Grow Potting Soil. Price of water has gone up so high, not sure how much longer I can keep this up. May have to cut down on those container plantings :-( If your soil is so dry, you might try some large container plantings where the moisture won't evaporate so quickly... I'm talking LARGE pots now...

My property is so dry, I love planting drought tolerate plants. Even after a rain storm I would dig into the soil and its dry. So to save money I try to buy drought tolerate plants... Happy Gardening !

Gylma ~ My daughter-in-law in Pasadena grows Mandevilla in containers and they do GREAT! Hmmmmmmmmm... Sometimes certain plants just don't like the soil makeup in an area. For instance, I have no luck with growing Salvia or Celosia in the ground...
