New paddles forming on Opuntia

I thought the color of these newly-forming Opuntia paddles was neat, so I took a quick pic. Like most opuntias, these have tiny thick leaves as they emerge, which quickly fall off, leaving the big round (thorny!) pads.

Thanks, all!  Sorry, Craig, this plant was in the Desert Botanical Garden, not my own garden, so I don't have this one to share.  Happy gardening all!

Would like for you to send one of these "paddles" to me in the mail as I have several of the solid green ones and the Paddles root so easily.

Wow, those thorny pads would come in handy for buffing away the rough skin!! They are such a pretty colour!

I love it.  I've been away for the last 6 months and am looking forward to seeing how things fared in Mesa during that time.  It will experience the desert in the summer for the first time this year.

"Reminds me of an old saying... "Gardeners are the most optimistic people on the planet - who else at age 90 would plant a small tree seedling and worry about what would have to be transplanted once the tree begins to shade it" :)"
