Your pets are wonderful and you are so very lucky to have found such amazing companions. I too have a sleep kitty, or better known as, my "bedbug". Jo, who is a aging gracefully, 17 yr old Lilac pt Siamese, notifies me at 9-9:30 pm that it is time to go to bed. Once she has my attention she races ahead and up the stairs, meowing and looking back to make sure I am following her all the way.
When I am finally settled comfortably in bed, she too "plunks" herself neatly on my pillow, her back to my face and starts her "motor" up. The sound is like a sleep machine, repetitive and soothing. I bury my nose in her sweet smelling, clean fur and wrap my arms around her. Before you know it I am off to the land of nod. And like yours, at 5:30-6 am BOTH Jo and Alfie (Also 17 and a Siamese) do the same...walk and step all over me, meowing (often screaming) to tell me that they are -straving- to death, and what a mean kitty mom I am to them..can't I see they are wasting away from being without food for almost 12 hrs (they have dry food 24/7..go figure?) Or if I should just flutter my eyelids and try to peek to see where they are Jo is sitting right in front of me watching and often nibbling on my eyelashes. They remind me of the cat cartoon character Simon on Youtube in their daily efforts to be fed.
Oh cats..what would we do without them?? :-) <3
Your dog sounds like a real keeper. I understand Border Collies are the most intelligent of dogs. You are one very lucky girl.
A home isn't a home without furry kids in it.
Susan, Spencer IS multi-talented. Not only is he a male kitty, but he is the resident "Mail" kitty as well. When the mailman delivers the mail, from the outside wall, it drops on to the floor inside the house. Spencer is always on-guard at the right time of day. If mom or I are not there to retrieve the mail, as he reclines upon it, let's say I am downstairs in the rathskeller on the computer, then Spencer will chose a piece of mail, and bring it down to me to alert me that the mail has arrived. Now isn't that just the cutest thing ever? Also, Spencer is my "sleep kitty". I sleep on my side, so I turn my pillow perpendicular to the headboard, to leave room for him on the other side of the pillow so that he can stretch out if he chooses. When he is sure that I am settled-in, he hops up on the bed in his spot, and curles up to sleep. My job is to place one hand on his shoulders, and the other on his loin, and that's the position in which we sleep every night, so he's my little teddy bear kitty, too! Spencer puts me to sleep, but it is Shadow, the black and white little girl kitty, who wakes me. If I have hit the snooze alarm button too many times, for her liking, she positions herself over my forehead, trills, headbutts, and paws my forehead and my hair & scalp until I awaken. I can't tell you how wonderful it is that I have two kitties who are responsible pets, and have taken on the jobs of putting me to sleep and waking me up, it's heaven, and a wonderful way to show their love and affection. Spencer is also my protector, and is in-charge of flying critters, and those that crawl, should they accidently make their way into the house. He is quite serious about this job, and for all of his kindnesses he is mightly rewarded with love, petting, and kisses, as is Shadow. My Border Collie, Sheba, is my confidant, my obedience trial protege', my protector from predators outside the home, the resident yard squirrel monitor, and my ambassador of goodwill to all. Unlike many Border Collies, Sheba came to me as a 300-mile turn-around rescue. How anyone could abandon such an amazing personality is beyond me. She is cat friendly, loves everyone, protects me, obeys me, and is doing well with her obedience training, which she been very patient with learning for the last three years of my full-time college endeavor while working full-time, as well. And unlike many Border Collies, who have the reputation of non-stop energy, she also came with her own turn-off switch, and saves up her high energy for frequent sprints in the open air. Quite frankly, Sheba is amazing, she puts all the other dogs, in my obedience training club to shame, and does it happily with a great attitude, and an abounding need to please, with kindness and enthusiasm. So where many people may have "pets", I have soul mates, and partners. I count myself as being very lucky. Patricia
