It's an amorphophallus. It's the genus that has the largest blooming plant on earth. Amorphophallus titanum. I've tried growing it here in zone 8a, but isn't hardy. Some folks do grow it and take it in/out each year in a pot. The corm gets HUGE. There are a number of amorphophallus that are hardy here, Konjac is a variety that's highly hardy and seeds about. They bloom first and smell a wee bit like rotten meat to attract their pollinators. Then it throws up it's leaves that are quite interesting. I love them...just need them to be sited not to close to the house...fragrance only lasts a day or two though. Semi-shade for me.

I have several Voodoo Lily plants now and have yet to smell anything. Probably a good thing!

I have this plant, I call it the stinky plant because it emits a horrible odor, does yours?

All I know is it's a Voodoo Lily...I didn't know there were different varieties.

I have this color and one that is almost black, do you know the name. Does yours have red berries in the fall? I should have said variety, I know it's a voodoo.

The plant is a Voodoo Lily. I don't that it is edible, haven't checked on that yet. I've been told by a few people not to plant them too close to the house as when they bloom they smell like rotting flesh. These have bloomed for 2 years now and I've never smelled anything, and they are right outside our back door. Really awesome looking though.
