Hi Alanna! So sorry to hear about your lay off, and hope you will be back to a job you love soon. We are in different zones, but I can say grow whatever your family loves to eat. Research the best time to grow because although things can grow mostly all year round, for me in zone 9 collards are sweeter if they get a frost, so I only grow them in the winter.
You will certanly save money when growing even a small amount of your vegies. When I go to the store, I always look in my cart and say "hmm wonder what is in here that I can grow myself" Then I take inventory! Saving money is one advantgage, but also I am so tired of all the ecoli outbreaks! Nestle Tall House Cookies ecoli outbreak sent me over the edge! It is getting to where you grow your own food or buy local because you just want to make sure it is safe!
Good Luck with your gardening!!

Here is a start for your quest.......I can send you more links for genealogy searches. That is my other hobby after gardening! Let me know if you need any help.

Hi Alanna,

There is a group that offers, for a fee, to trace your DNA to Irish ancestry. Let me know if you want the info.......

I love beagles so much! I'm also a stepmom for Havanese puppies - they are really, really sweet!

George has two 'dig' spots in the back yard. When he gets excited he goes to one of them and just digs like crazy - it's so funny.

I write for helium, hub and associated content - I don't make much money - but it keeps me in seeds - lol.

Aren't Beagles a riot? We live next to state hunting land and someone left George by the side of the road when he was only about a year old - so of course I took him in - he's SO much fun - but keep stealing my socks.

Hello! You have such lovely photos and flowers! We live in Groveland Twp - between Holly and ortonville. Our son lives in Southfield off of ten mile near the Catholic cemetery - so I feel like we're neighbors!

Alanna, welcome , I live just outside of Plymouth in Salem Twp. on two acres. We built our house 4 years ago, and I've been working on the landscape ever since. I know what you mean about not realizing that you are a gardener, until one day you realize that you just moved a same plant for the 5th time. I call that a gardener. LOL
