First Frost

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 7:28am 0 Comments

Well, we got our first frost last night here is Remsenburg, NY.  The Pine Barrens, which are only 10 miles away from here, already got their first frost a week ago.  This first frost makes me wish that I could hibernate my way through the winter.  I already can't wait for Spring.  Unfortunately, if I want my plants to be good plants, they need the Winter, which means I just gotta deal with it.  There are certainly a few more Fall things that I need to do around the yard.  I need to re-pot my…

Just Not Enough Time in a Day

Posted on October 22, 2011 at 7:22am 0 Comments

I am hoping to get out in the yard today.  There are so many things in the house that need my attention though.  If nothing else, I would like to at least plant the last of the Agastache and Salvia, but I would also like to get some more garden space cleaned out.  I will attempt to recruit my children for help.  That will be more challenging than trying to manage time today.  They are 10 and 8, and what child wants to do actual work on their days off from school.  No child that I can think of.… Continue

Garden Rooms

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 6:47pm 0 Comments

Since I have a clean slate in my back yard, I would really like to take a stab at creating garden rooms.  I want a shady area for sitting, but would really like to make it a sunken patio.  Maybe create a sitting area with a retaining wall to go around a fire pit.  I've always wanted a fire pit.  I like the idea of a trellis over it too, but I'm thinking I would need to keep the center of it open.  Just ideas.
